Where To Eat Vegan In Rome

Rome is a sprawling city. You can find the world’s oldest civilizations, ancient ruins and restored palaces, medieval cathedrals, and baroque churches, all within walking distance of each other.

It’s also a city with a thriving vegan community. Rome has become more veg-friendly over the last few years, especially in finding places to eat. There are plenty of vegan options, but it can take time to know where to start.

Before you start exploring the options that I think are the best, I recommend you take a look at my Mapstr map, where you can find vegan and vegan-friendly places throughout Italy and around the world.

Rifugio Romano

Can you eat carbonara and all the typical Roman dishes while being vegan? Oh yes, you can! Rifugio Romano is where to eat the best Roman vegan food in Rome (and all over Italy—honestly).

It’s a typical Roman trattoria that offers all kinds of vegan food. You can find the famous pastas: carbonara, cacio e pepe, gricia, and amatriciana. You can also find supplì: a fried croquette that usually contains ragù and mozzarella typical of central Italy.

Trust me. This food is to die for. I’ve lived in Rome for three years and loved Roman food. This is the place to keep eating traditional food without animal suffering. If you’re vegan and crave some Roman food, you won’t miss anything—promise you!

Romeow Cat Bistrot

Romeow Cat Bistrot is my favorite restaurant in Rome. Actually, I think it’s my favorite restaurant in Italy.

First of all, this restaurant is the home of seven cats. That’s right. You read that right: seven cats! Cats live inside the restaurant, and you can pet and cuddle them.

They serve delicious vegan and gluten-free dishes that are made with organic ingredients. The food is all homemade, using fresh ingredients from local markets. I had the chance to try both the summer and winter menus, and I must say that I don’t even know how to choose between the two.

The place is decorated with vintage furniture and has a relaxing atmosphere. You can also relax after your meal with a cup of tea or their amazing Kombucha. If you are in Rome, you have to go there!

Extra Tip: if you can, eat there for dinner. The lunch menu is also delicious, but the dinner menu is impressive.

Wani Bakery

This bakery is located in a residential area in Garbatella and has some of the best vegan pastries and cakes I have ever had. The owner also makes beautiful cakes for special occasions such as weddings or birthdays. They also have a selection of vegan desserts, including cookies, muffins, and brownies. You must go there if you want to have the typical Italian breakfast: cornetto and cappuccino!

Rome is a fantastic city, and many local restaurants offer accidentally vegan options. As long as you stick to casual restaurants in Rome, you’ll have no problem finding vegan food, but these are my go-to’s every time I am in Rome, and I highly suggest you try them!
